History A Level

Key information
- A minimum of seven GCSEs at grades A*-C
- Including minimum B grades in English Language or History (if taken at GCSE)
- A passion for history and an eagerness to explore different historical contexts.
The course offers an engaging learning experience that combines classroom-based instruction with interactive activities. Through lectures, group discussions, and independent research, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of historical events and themes. Assessments will be conducted to evaluate your progress and understanding of the subject, including essay assignments and examinations. There are also opportunities for engagement outside of the classroom, e.g., a study visit to the Imperial War Museum in London.
Grading Criteria:
The grading criteria will focus on your ability to demonstrate historical knowledge, interpret primary sources and secondary extracts, and construct well-structured arguments.
All five units are worth 20% each of the final A2 grade.
Year 1 – two examination papers:
- Unit 1: Government, Rebellion and Society in Tudor Wales and England c. 1485-1603
- Unit 2: Part 1: Weimar and its challenges, c.1918-1933
Year 2 – two examination papers and one piece of coursework:
- Unit 3: The American Century, c.1890-1990
- Unit 4: Part 2: Nazi Germany, c.1933-1945
- Unit 5: Historical Interpretations (coursework)
Completing A-Level History provides a solid foundation for your future academic and professional endeavours. The course opens up a range of progression opportunities, including higher education in history, politics, international relations, or related disciplines.
