We offer a range of support services to help you succeed, including dedicated Student Support Officers, Pastoral Coaches, a confidential counselling service, and a team of qualified Health Advisors. Whether you're facing academic challenges, personal difficulties, or need guidance on health matters, we're here to provide the support you need to thrive.
Our specialist student support staff are available at Llwyn y Bryn, Tycoch, Gorseinon and Jubilee Court campuses.
Student Support Officers and Pastoral Coaches
The College has a team of Student Support Officers and Pastoral Coaches available to students who require additional support outside their studies and they can assist with a variety of issues that may present during the academic year including:
- Students that present as homeless
- Students experiencing financial hardship
- Anxious students
- Poor attendance
- Struggling with the course or motivation
- Being bullied
- Problems at home
- Anger management difficulties
- Looked After Child (LAC) and Care Leavers (CL)
- Young Carer (YC)
- Suffering abuse
- Transition into higher level courses or to HE or employment.
Their role is to offer one to one support and guidance, to assist learners in overcoming any difficulties and if necessary referring on to other services for additional support.
Counselling service
Students can talk, in a confidential setting, about anything including academic problems, depression, anxiety, help with anger management, stress or bullying.
Health advisor
The health advisor team are qualified, registered nurses who provide a professional and proactive service to all students and provide advice and guidance relating to specific student health issues to relevant staff. Their aim is to promote health and wellbeing across the College by:
- Assessing all learner medical needs
- Liaising with other health professionals when existing health issues are present/become present
- Leading on health promotions across the College which can include sexual health, healthy lifestyles, smoking, mental health, wellbeing, alcohol and drugs, period poverty and more
- Carrying out risk assessments on any high risk medical condition
- Referring learners to appropriate agencies for additional support where beneficial
- Supporting any learner who needs to take medication in College.
