Gower College Swansea has been awarded ‘Associate’ status by the Royal Society, the UK’s national science academy.
The Royal Society’s Associate Schools and Colleges scheme is a network of enthusiastic teachers who share their experience in order to help promote excellence in science and mathematics teaching.
Gower College Swansea Biology lecturer Amy Herbert was recently interviewed by the Royal Society for their September podcast during which she was asked about the college’s various STEM projects.
These include student seminars with leading figures from industry and academia, CREST award-winning projects, collaborations with local businesses and engagement with the HE+ programme, which encourages students to apply for the UK’s top universities.
“We were the only college / school in the UK to be asked to participate in the podcasts so it was a huge privilege,” says Amy. “To be interviewed by such an eminent society, who generally feature Nobel Prize winners, was a huge honour. We now look forward to developing our relationship with the Royal Society and to continuing our commitment to excellence in science at the college.”
