A Professional Cookery student from Gower College Swansea scooped a top prize at the recent CogUrdd competition held at Ysgol Gyfun Bryn Tawe.
Jacqueline Morgan, who is a Level 3 student at the Tycoch campus, took first prize in the 19-25 category and will now go on to compete in the National Urdd Eisteddfod in Caerphilly in May.
The aim of the competition was to create a main course suitable for the Urdd Chief Executive that included at least two Welsh ingredients. Jacqui's recipe was Welsh lamb with honey and Penderyn sauce.
“Jacqui's success reflects the hard work she has put in to prepare for CogUrdd,” says Catering and Hospitality lecturer Ioan Lodwig. “The competition encourages students to better their presentation skills and gives them valuable experience whilst they are preparing to start their careers in the catering industry. I would like to wish Jacqui the best of luck in the final round.”
“This success is an indication of the opportunities available for students at the Urdd - to take part in activities and competitions through the medium of Welsh," says Anna Davies, Gower College Swansea’s Bilingual Champion. "This will not only give Jacqui a confidence boost but will also encourage other students to follow her lead and compete.”
This established competition is going from strength to strength with a brand new category launched this year specifically for those who are aged between 19 and 25.
