Staff celebrated at special Long Service Awards
Around 70 long-serving staff at Gower College Swansea have been celebrated at a special event at Swansea.com Stadium.
The Long Service Awards were set up to recognise and thank those members of staff who have dedicated at least 20 years to Gower College Swansea.
Lecturers, managers and business support staff from across all areas of the organisation received personalised gifts before enjoying an afternoon tea.
Entertainment was provided by local harpist Bethan Sian and talented singer Abi Rankin, who is a College student.

Top universities talk for young learners
Hundreds of young learners were recently invited to attend the launch of the Swansea Seren Hub for 2024/25, where they were able to find out more about the skills needed to apply to the UK’s top universities.
The event, led by Gower College Swansea and Swansea University and held at the Great Hall on the latter’s Bay Campus, was attended by almost 300 students from the College and local sixth form schools, many of whom were joined by their parents and guardians.

Novus Gower Hosts Inaugural Teaching and Learning Conference
Celebrating Growth and Excellence in Prison EducationNovus Gower is proud to announce its first-ever Teaching and Learning Conference, celebrating the remarkable progress in education at HMP and YOI Parc since taking over the education and training contract in December 2022.
Novus Gower is a joint venture between not-for-profit social enterprise Novus, the UK’s largest provider of education, training and employability programmes to prisoners, and Gower College Swansea, one of the largest colleges in Wales.

Gower College Swansea CEO Mark Jones receives MBE
Gower College Swansea CEO, Mark Jones has recently collected his MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for his outstanding contributions to education.
Mark received the prestigious accolade as part of the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours list and was formally presented with the award by HRH The Princess Royal during a ceremony at Windsor Castle last month.
Major redevelopment underway at Gorseinon Campus
A significant milestone has been reached at Gower College Swansea’s Gorseinon Campus where a major redevelopment project has officially begun, marking a substantial investment in teaching and learning for all students.
Vikki Howells MS, Minister for Further and Higher Education, attended a ground-breaking ceremony to show her support for this transformative initiative. The Minister was joined by the College’s Principal Kelly Fountain, Chief Executive Officer Mark Jones, and Chair of Governors Meirion Howells, in celebrating the start of this exciting project.

Tom Giffard MS meets Gower College Swansea learners who benefit from bilingual provision
During a visit to Gower College Swansea, Member of the Senedd, Tom Giffard, had the opportunity to meet learners at the Gorseinon campus who are benefitting from bilingual provision supported by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
The provision is in Childcare, Health and Social Care, Creative Industries, Construction, Sport, Business, Horticulture and Public Services.
James Donaldson appointed as Vice Principal, Learner Experience and Inclusion at Gower College Swansea
Gower College Swansea is delighted to announce the appointment of James Donaldson as the new Vice Principal for Learner Experience and Inclusion.
James, who joined the College earlier this month, brings over 12 years of senior leadership experience in student support, learner experience, safeguarding and supporting learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) to make a successful transition from school to College. He also has a strong track record in driving change and improving student outcomes.

Top 100 honour for Hannah
Gower College Swansea’s Hannah Pearce has been named as one of the CITB’s Top 100 Most Influential Women in Construction for 2024.
In her role as Learning Area Manager for Built Environment, Hannah has actively advocated for greater female participation in the construction industries.
