It was all hands on deck at Gower College Swansea when Swans Ambassador Lee Trundle dropped by to lend his support to a brand new litter picking initiative at the Tycoch campus.
The initiative will see a different tutor group from Tycoch patrol the area around the campus every Thursday, covering four routes in Tycoch/Sketty using equipment kindly donated by City and Council of Swansea.
20 Football Academy students, fresh back from playing in Portugal, volunteered to do the first litter pick alongside students from the Independent Living Skills department – with one group alone picking up five bags of rubbish.
“Our students want to make sure they are doing their bit to keep the area clean and have been particularly concerned about the impact of rubbish on local wildlife, “ says Alison Booth, Lead Tutor for Gorseinon, Broadway and Jubilee Court. “The College is very much a part of the community and we wanted to launch a scheme that will get students out and about, looking after the local environment and developing links with our neighbours.”
Also in attendance were Cllr Cheryl Philpott, Cllr Clive Lloyd, Stuart Rees and Thomas Williams from Swansea Council, and Mark Parker PCSO.
