Leah levels up learning: Wins the*gamehers Award for Impact Through Education

Gower College Swansea (GCS) is proud to announce that Leah Griffiths, our PGCE student and lecturer within our learning area of Business and Technology, has been named a winner in the 2025 the*gamehers Awards, recognised in the ‘Impact Through Education’ category.

Leah's win places her among 100 women honoured globally by the*gamehers, an organisation dedicated to amplifying the voices and achievements of women and femme-identifying persons in the gaming industry.

Leah, who is currently training as a teacher and supporting the delivery of a wide range of modules across the curriculum, was nominated by her mentor, Kiran Jones, for her efforts to inspire and support students, particularly those from underrepresented groups, within the fields of gaming and technology. She has worked closely with teaching staff in preparing lessons and delivering content, showcasing her commitment to inclusive, engaging education.

A passionate advocate for esports, Leah has also been actively involved in extracurricular initiatives. Notably, she has contributed to the success of GCS’s esports team, the GCSOwls, by helping to set up competitions, attending events, and creating new opportunities for students to engage with the esports community. 

Her commitment to fostering learning and empowering students in the rapidly growing esports and gaming sectors stood out among thousands of nominations at the*gamehers awards.

says Leah Griffiths.

"Thank you for allowing me to share my passion for esports and gaming. Becoming an educator has been one of the most meaningful steps in my journey, and it’s all thanks to the support around me."

Leah also extended a heartfelt thank you to her mentors and supporters, Kiran Jones, Daniel Davies, Clive Prosser, Neil Griffiths, and Sian Bevan, whose continued encouragement and guidance have been invaluable.

"We are incredibly proud of Leah’s outstanding achievement and her dedication to inspiring the next generation of gaming professionals."
