Gower College Swansea is delighted to be named as a key sponsor of the Welsh Pro, event 4 UKPSA Pro Surf Tour.
This event is part of the Nerf Clash of the Groms Series 2018, which aims to encourage the development of Wales’ junior surfers.
Held on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 October at Rest Bay, Porthcawl, the Welsh Pro is set to attract the best surfers from across the UK.
Dave Reed, Director of UKPSA, said: “I would like to thank Gower College Swansea for their support. This is the only junior event on the tour in Wales and it will help encourage the development of the sport at all levels.”
Speaking about Gower College Swansea's involvement in the event, Dean of Faculty, Ruth Prosser said: "We're delighted to be sponsoring this national event and it is a fantastic opportunity to support young surfers in Wales.
“Some of these surfers have studied with us at the College as part of our elite sports academy programme, in particular Patrick Langdon-Dark (pictured), who has won many UK surf competitions and was awarded for his Outstanding Sports Achievement at the College's annual awards ceremony in June 2018.
“We wish all the competitors the very best of luck and very much look forward to the event."
Nerf Clash of the Groms Series:
Each event will attract the best young surfers from across the UK to compete in eight divisions: Under 12 Boys, Under 12 Girls, Under 14 Girls, Under 14 Boys, Under 16 Girls, Under 16 Boys, Under 18 Girls and Under 18 Boys.
The tour will aim to promote progressive surfing with the judging criteria focusing on quality of manoeuvres. The tabulation will count the best two waves with highest scoring wave doubled.
