The career move with big opportunities that can help take you to the next level

Upskilling with Gower College Swansea's apprenticeships can lead you on a path to success.

It’s no secret that relevant skills, knowledge and experience are all incredibly valuable to employers – and fortunately, there’s one form of learning that can help you gain all of them in one neat package: an apprenticeship.

Apprenticeships are all-age, work-based learning programmes for individuals working 16 hours or more a week, where existing employees and new recruits can gain new skills, workplace-specific experience, and helpful knowledge that can optimise a workplace.

To celebrate Apprenticeship Week Wales 2025, Gower College Swansea has developed an exciting programme of events and activities to help you discover more about the upskilling opportunities available.

From February 10 to 14, 2025, it will host a range of free apprenticeship information sessions across a variety of course areas, including gas and central heating engineering, facilities management, community development, digital, information, advice and guidance and more.

Taking place over Microsoft Teams, potential apprentices and organisations can chat with the experienced delivery team and ask questions about courses and development pathways, offering the chance to explore all the options available.

Achieving success with an apprenticeship

Many people have seen success following apprenticeships, including Scott Tovey, a former pupil at Morriston Comprehensive School.

During his time at school, Scott started to spend time with the site manager during sanctioned periods, and began helping the estates team with odd jobs, before then volunteering out of school hours.

Scott then stayed on as an apprentice after his schooling, completing Level 2 and 3 apprenticeships in facilities management, and even winning the College’s Apprentice of the Year award at the Apprenticeship Awards in 2022.

Lucy Bird, commercial manager at Gower College Swansea, said: “Scott Tovey’s story is an inspiring example of how apprenticeships can provide a rewarding career path.

"His dedication and hard work are truly commendable, and his success serves as a fantastic role model for other people considering apprenticeships.”

Following his apprenticeship, Scott began a full-time position at the school.
