Upcycling clothing and textile fabrics
Overview
This course is delivered in the classroom, one day a week over a three week period.
Each session explores a different upcycling technique, transforming old or secondhand clothing and textiles into garments and accessories you'll be proud to wear.

Day one
Decorative surface techniques
Turn old or secondhand bedding into a beautiful A-line skirt, using sashiko stitching, applique and/or embroidery techniques to embellish the surface and create a garment unique to you.
What to bring
Old or secondhand bedding.

Day two
Dyeing techniques
Bring along an old or secondhand cotton, linen or viscose garment, such as a skirt, dress or trousers and transform it using shibori and tie-dyeing techniques.
What to bring
Skirt, dress or trousers.
Ensure item of clothing is cotton, linen or viscose so that the dyeing process can be successful.

Day three
Reconstruction techniques
Give old jeans a new life by reimagining them as a stylish tote bag, using patchwork, appliqué and smocking techniques.
What to bring
Old or secondhand jeans.
Key information
No entry requirements.
All techniques will be demonstrated and learners will use these techniques to transform the items they bring along.
Techniques will include hand and machine stitching and fabric dyeing.
This course is delivered in the classroom, one day a week over a three week period.
There is no formal assessment for this course, as all items made using the various techniques will form the basis of the qualification.
Learners must attend all three sessions as they will require three different upcycled items to gain the qualification.
This course compliments the variety of adult part-time evening courses that are run throughout the year.
This course will give insight on how different craft techniques can be used to upcycle clothing which you can then further develop through other part-time courses.
This course has a £70 studio fee which is payable at your first session.
