Make a Summer Dress (Sewing Course)
Overview
This course will teach you how to plan and make a summer style dress. This course will guide you through choosing the perfect fabric for your summer style dress, understanding how to lay out and cut fabric accurately using a pattern template.
Beyond basic construction, you'll also master the use of essential machine attachments like a zip foot, a rolled hem foot, and a buttonhole foot.
To add a unique touch, you'll even learn free-motion embroidery techniques, ensuring your finished dress is truly one-of-a-kind.
You can choose to use a commercial pattern, bring along your own pattern design or use a pre-made block as the basis for your design.
Key information
There is an expectation that you will have some sewing skills and experience in making up simple garments to join this course, however new techniques are fully demonstrated from the outset.
Classes take place in our small, friendly sewing and design studio at the Llwyn y Bryn Campus, Uplands. With access to a range of sewing equipment, you’ll learn in a relaxed yet inspiring environment.
All materials will be provided initially to get you started, though you will be expected to provide your own materials and equipment to produce your own project.
Learn how to combine your new sewing skills with patchwork, applique or embroidery and sashiko so that you can design wardrobe essentials that are unique to your style.
You can also progress onto other clothing manufacturing courses.
