Built Environment A Level
Overview
The A Level Built Environment provides a broad introduction to the professional routes within construction and the built environment. It has been developed for individuals to sample skills associated with planning, developing, managing and evaluating built environment projects. Designing and drawing skills associated with built environment. Creating concepts for Building Information Modelling (BIM) skills and surveying skills.
All learners will complete four units. Two in the 1st AS year and an additional two in the 2nd A Level year.
Key information
- A minimum of seven GCSEs at grades A*-C
- Grade C or above in GCSE Mathematics, Built Environment or Design Technology is desirable
As part of the AS/A level option 4 hours a week.

To complete this qualification, learners must complete:
AS:
- Unit 1 : Our Built Environment – Written examination (20%)
- Unit 2: Design and Planning - assessed through a non-exam assessment (NEA) (20%)
A level:
- Unit 3: Materials, Technologies and Techniques – Written Examination (30%)
- Unit 4: Construction Practices - assessed through a non-exam assessment (NEA) (30%)
