Drama A Level
Overview
This course is designed for students passionate about acting and theatre, who wish to study Drama in depth. It includes written and practical elements that will encourage you to develop an excellent understanding of theatre performance. There is a strong focus on enhancing your performance skills and ability to analyse theatre.
Course Objectives:
- To experience a range of opportunities as a theatre maker to create and interpret published scripts and devised work.
- To develop and apply knowledge for interpreting and understanding drama and theatre.
- To analyse and evaluate their own work and the work of others.
Course Outcomes:
- Acquire a detailed knowledge into the subject’s published scripts.
- Develop performance skills when creating and interpreting material for performance.
- Demonstrate a critical understanding of drama through written and practical assessments.
Key information
- A minimum of seven GCSEs grade A*-C, including B in English Language
- A genuine passion for dram and a commitment to learning. While GCSE Drama is preferred, any prior performance experience is beneficial
- We welcome students from diverse performance backgrounds
The course is delivered through a combination of practical workshops and theory lessons.

PRACTICAL AS: Unit 1
- Reinterpretation of an existing script
- Performance of material in the style of a recognised company or practitioner
- Creative log
- Evaluation

THEORY AS: Unit 2
Knowledge, understanding and critical analysis of one set text.

Upon successful completion of the A-Level Drama course, you will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue various pathways. Possible progression routes include:
- Higher Education: Progress to university level Drama courses, such as BA (Hons) Drama, Drama therapy, or Drama Education.
- Professional Training: Consider vocational drama training at prestigious institutions.
- Performance Careers: Pursue a career as an actor, director, or teacher.
- Arts Administration: Explore opportunities in drama/theatre/event management or production. Our dedicated careers advisors will provide guidance and support, helping you shape your future in the vibrant world of theatre.
- The course is full time and based at the Arts centre at the college's Gorseinon campus. It is based on 4.5 teaching hours a week throughout the academic year.
- As part of the course you will be encouraged to actively engage in the viewing of live theatre.
- You will attend trips to external venues, view performance work online and fully participate in workshops from guest practitioners. As part of your personal progression pathway you will be supported with UCAS and specialist college applications.
- £100 course fee to cover the cost of workshops and trips.
