Two Engineering Technology students at Gower College Swansea’s Tycoch Campus have been making waves in the engineering industry, thanks to the help of a former student, David McRae.
David, who completed his Structural Engineering degree at Swansea University and went on to become a Principal Engineer at CB3 Consult, recently reached out to his former tutor, Coral Planas, in search of apprentices to join the Institute of Civil Engineering apprenticeship scheme.
Impressed by the quality of students on Tycoch's Enhanced Engineering Programme, CB3 Consult decided to take on two students - Rhidian Jones and Emily Porter - for apprenticeships in Civil Engineering.
Rhidian and Emily will now complete their Level 3 studies one day a week before progressing to a degree apprenticeship.
Coral, Curriculum Lead for Engineering at Tycoch, played a key role in facilitating this opportunity for the students. David’s visit for a presentation and subsequent interviews with the students showcased the high level of talent and skills present on the Eng Tech program.
