Relocation of Tycoch reception
We are pleased that refurbishment work at Tycoch is starting and therefore we will be relocating Reception from the front of the Tycoch Campus to the old Faculty Office in the Engineering Block with effect from Monday 13 February.
Signs will be put up to direct the public. Parking will also be available for disabled badge holders and visitors outside the new Reception area.

A Science lecturer from Gower College Swansea has been selected to attend the largest European educational fair, which will see primary and STEM teachers from 30 countries gather to exchange innovative teaching concepts and present their most innovative ideas.
Denise Thomas, who teaches Chemistry at the Gorseinon campus, will participate in the prestigious Science on Stage Festival 2017 when it takes place in Hungary in June.

Students taking part in the Bridge Programme at Gower College Swansea were involved in a recent ‘mock interview’ day which introduced them to potential employers from the local community.
The Bridge Programme targets young people who are at high risk of becoming NEET (not in employment, education or training) and aims to engage them in a range of opportunities that could lead them into work or study.

The International team at Gower College Swansea bids a fond farewell to Diane Ren (second left) who recently completed a 12 week teaching placement with the Business and Economics team at the Gorseinon campus.
Diane will now return to Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) to start teaching on their new A Level programme, for which Gower College Swansea is a partner.
Both Diane and the International team would like to thank all staff involved in helping to make her placement such a success.

Read moreUpcoming temporary Sports Hall closure (Tycoch)
Due to the floor being resurfaced, the Sports Centre Hall at Tycoch will be closed from Friday 17 February to Sunday 26 February.
It will also be necessary to close the entire Sports Centre for some of this time - from Tuesday 21 February to Sunday 26 February - while this work is completed.
The Sports Centre will reopen as normal on Monday 27 February at 6.30am.
All our current members will be reimbursed. We apologise for this inconvenience they may cause.

Gower College Swansea has celebrated Santes Dwynwen day in style this year. The common room at Gorseinon was decorated with red heart shaped balloons, flyers with the story of Dwynwen were scattered everywhere and plenty of chocolates, sweets and heart shaped jellies were given to students to raise awareness of the day.
On the Llwyn y Bryn campus, Library Assistant Kath Oakwood created a lovely Santes Dwynwen display and Student Recreational Officer Marc Nurse distributed sweets and flyers across the Tycoch campus.

Representatives from the Royal Navy recently spent the day with Level 3 Pre-Apprenticeship / Engineering Technology students at Tycoch, helping to develop their communication skills in preparation for forthcoming interviews.
Following a prior visit the students made to HMS Richmond at Cardiff Bay, the Royal Navy's Careers team offered to visit the college and assist with the interview preparations which included providing feedback on CVs and practical interview skills.
Electrical / mechanical firm welcomes students to site
Students from Gower College Swansea were treated to a recent site visit to Swansea University Bay Campus’ residential development thanks to Swansea-based RDM Electrical and Mechanical Services, who are helping the students to plan their futures for a career in the electrical and mechanical services industry.
The Level 2 Construction students were welcomed by RDM and viewed the works the company is completing for VINCI Construction UK, based around the mechanical and electrical works at the residential development phase 1C site.

The Independent Living Skills department at Gower College Swansea is working with the City & County of Swansea to provide placements for students and help ensure our local ‘Green Flag’ parks are well maintained and cared for.
Over the past two years, students from the SSTEP (Students Transition Towards Employment Progression) and AOW (Academy of Work) courses at the Tycoch campus have gained invaluable practical experience thanks to this ongoing partnership.
