Performing Arts students from Gower College Swansea have taken to the stage after being specially selected to perform at a one-off Cinelive Project.
‘What’s the Grey Matter with Gregory?’ was an immersive theatre production staged at the Taliesin on 20 January for an audience of around 100 local secondary students.
“In December we were contacted by the Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff as they were looking to work with school or college student groups in this area,” says lecturer Rachel Dooley. “They then visited the Gorseinon campus to hold six intensive workshops with our Level 3 students in order to prepare for the performance at the Taliesin.”
This project was funded by the BFI (British Film Institute, Cinelive, Film Hub Wales and the Wellcome Trust) and will be delivered at three venues across Wales - the Taliesin, the Torch Theatre and Theatre Clwyd.
“In each of the venues, Chapter were keen to work with young people local to the area so we were delighted to be asked to participate in the Taliesin event,” adds Rachel.
‘What’s the Grey Matter with Gregory?’ explores content linked to the school curriculum such as science, citizenship and personal social education (PSE) and was interspersed with educational workshops. The event culminated in a screening of the classic 1981 film Gregory’s Girl.
