Staff and students at Gower College Swansea have celebrated Global Enterprise Week with a range of events and activities.
The week kicked off with ‘Get Involved’, where students were set a number of challenges including ‘Picture your Future’ and ‘Guess the Product’ in the company of two local entrepreneurs - singer Ayesha Jeffries and Surfability’s Ben Clifford.
At the Llwyn y Bryn campus, art and design students took part in an eco-focussed workshop with jewellery designer Tanya Igic where they were shown how to revamp old clothing and ‘up-cycle’ them into new, desirable items.
Sport students attended a ‘mock interview’ session with Careers Wales and local employers including HSBC, University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Lloyds Bank and Tata Steel. An interactive workshop was also arranged for Creative Media students, where they met with successful business people to develop their enterprise / employability skills.
In addition to college-based activity, there were several trips arranged to venues as diverse as Long Row Audio studios, run by local entrepreneur Dan yn guy, and Swansea University.
“Our aim is to inspire students to start their entrepreneurial journey by bringing their ideas to life and ‘making it happen’,” says Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle. “Whatever their idea, we want them to be passionate about it and, by linking up with local entrepreneurs, mentors and inspirational speakers, we believe they’ll be encouraged to go out there and just do it!”
