A Level Chemistry students from Gower College Swansea have recently returned from CERN in Geneva, which is the leading global establishment for research in particle physics.
Almost 50 students made the trip, which involved in depth lectures given by CERN's research workers and a tour of the facilities.
"The insight gained at CERN by students and teachers alike was inspirational," says Denise Thomas, Curriculum Leader for Chemistry. "We also visited the synchrotron and the ATLAS experiment, designed to explore sub atomic particles in the search for Higgs Boson. The students proved to be excellent ambassadors for the college and, as a result of this trip's success, we are hoping to make this an annual event."
During the trip, the students also had the chance to visit the National History Museum and experience the food and culture of this vibrant central European city.
