College supports Welsh Ambulance apprentices

The Welsh Ambulance Service has taken on two new apprentices.

Demi Tamplin and Rhiannon Harries, both from Swansea, started in their new roles as apprentice business secretaries last week after successfully taking part in an interview process.

During their time with the Trust they will be undertaking an NVQ Diploma in Business Administration in partnership with Gower College Swansea, working towards their Level 2 qualification.

The programme has been funded by the Welsh Government with money from the European Social Fund.

Landlord Training Wales partners with college

Landlord Training Wales, a division of welfare services company A19 Secure Solutions, has partnered with Gower College Swansea to provide an in-class training course designed to help landlords secure the qualifications they will need by law to manage properties in Wales.

The classroom based training will be held at regular intervals and will complement online training courses offered by Landlord Training Wales, which is enjoying a surge in demand as the deadline for compliance creeps closer.

GCS Training students scoop CMI Awards

Two students from GCS Training - the business training arm of Gower College Swansea - have taken top accolades at the prestigious Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Wales Awards for Excellence in Cardiff.

The judges could not separate the achievements of Luke Godrich and Robert Ellis so the title of Outstanding Management Student Award 2015 was awarded to them both.

Energy Centre officially opened

GCS Training, the business training arm of Gower College Swansea, has officially opened a brand new Energy Centre at its new Hill House site.

Julie James, Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, was among the special guests at the launch event. The Minister was shown around the fully refurbished facilities and saw first-hand how the centre will deliver state-of-the-art training courses for the electrical, gas and plumbing trades.

Certificates represent skills development for learners

Staff at a local care home have received certificates from Gower College Swansea in recognition of their skills development in Catering and Cleaning and Support Services.

Members of the catering and housekeeping teams at Awel Y Mor Care Home in Gorseinon have been working towards gaining these qualifications over the past 18 months.

A first for GCS Training

Timothy Hewitt has become the first GCS Training student to achieve CMI Chartered Manager status.

Tim started as a part time student at Sandringham Park where he embarked on a Level 3 ILM Management qualification. He felt that, as a Minister in the Church in Wales, he needed to develop himself in the field of management and leadership due to the role and responsibilities he had within the Church for the Parish and the volunteers.
