After an incredible set of A Level results, over 1,000 Gower College Swansea students are set to progress to university this September.
Almost 200 of these students are heading to some of the best universities in the UK - including Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Imperial College London, Bristol, Exeter and the London School of Economics.
The overall A Level pass rate at Gower College Swansea was 98% with 1827 separate exam entries. Of these passes, 1518 were at the higher grades of A*- C (almost 10% above Welsh average), 1066 were at grades A*- B and 516 were at grades A*- A. These are all strong increases on our excellent 2017 results.
The overall pass rate at AS Level was 93% with 1958 of those passes being grades A-C and 1364 being grades A-B again, all strong increases on 2017 results. There were 2853 separate exam entries for AS.
With the vocational results, the overall pass rate for Level 3 BTEC was 97% with 229 students achieving Distinction grades.
So what’s the secret of the College’s ongoing success? Here is Principal Mark Jones with some thoughts.
Choice
We offer a wide range of A Level and vocational courses that excite and inspire our students. We ensure each student is able to study the subjects they want to study by providing tailored advice and guidance throughout their time at the College. We also work hard to ensure student timetables are developed taking into account all their course choices.
Progression
We have high expectations for all of our students. For us it isn’t only about passing the exams, it’s also about getting the best grades to have the best progression opportunities.
Quality of teaching staff
We pride ourselves on our experienced lecturers, many of whom are specialists in their subject area and fully knowledgeable about their curriculum.
Student support
All our students receive academic and pastoral support. Our student advisers are in place to provide additional support if needed i.e. funding, bus passes or personal issues.
Our student support is second to none and we are continuing to invest heavily in facilities across the College to give our students the very best experience – with recent multi-million pound developments at Tycoch and Gorseinon.
Class sizes
With average class sizes of less than 20*, students are taught by highly qualified staff with support offered through a well-established tutorial programme. This is what we aim to achieve year on year and it keeps getting better and better.
*(our average class size is 14)
We are enrolling now for full time courses.
