Physical Education A Level
Overview
In this course, you will acquire the knowledge, understanding, skills and values to develop and maintain your performance in physical activities and understand the benefits to health, fitness and well-being.
Course Objectives:
- Develop a deep understanding of anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics in relation to physical performance
- Explore the psychological aspects of sports and learn how to apply sports psychology techniques to enhance performance
- Gain knowledge in sports nutrition and its impact on athletic performance and overall health
- Learn about different training methods, conditioning principles, and sports coaching techniques
- Develop critical analysis and evaluation skills for performance analysis in various sports
- Enhance practical skills through engaging in a range of sporting activities.

Key information
- Seven GCSE's at grades A*-C, including Mathematics, English Language, and Double Science
- GCSE B grade in Double/ Triple Science
- GCSE B grade (C in exam) in PE is desirable
- You must also play at least one sport to minimum club level standard.

AS Level (worth 40% of full A Level)
Assessment:
(60%: Unit 1)
- 1 Exam (60%).
(40%: Unit 2)
- Practical Performance in 1 Sport (20%)
- 1 piece of Coursework (10%)
- Perform as a Coach or Official (10%).
A2 Level (worth 60% of full A Level)
Assessment:
(60%: Unit 3)
- 1 Exam (60%).
(40%: Unit 4)
- Practical Performance in 1 Sport (20%)
- 1 piece of Coursework (20%).
Staying with Gower College Swansea, you could progress on to the Foundation Degree in Sports Development and Management.
Further study at university in a related subject such as sport science, sport rehabilitation, sport therapy, sport nutrition, physiotherapy, coaching and teaching.

Students are required to purchase a college kit package comprised of a t-shirt, polo and hoodie at a cost of approximately £70. Students will have the opportunity to purchase a college track suit and sports related kit linked to the sport of their choice. Minimal costs may be required for local educational visits and students are required to purchase a book to help with their studies.
