Staff and students at Gower College Swansea are looking forward to marking Neurodiversity Celebration Week from 21-27 March.
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a worldwide initiative that challenges stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences.
Gower College Swansea is joining the celebration by raising awareness of neurodiverse conditions.
In communal areas across all campuses, stands will be set up showcasing well known personalities who have a range of neurodiverse conditions and the Neurodiversity team will be available to signpost students as well as provide them with resources. There will also be goodie bags and guest speakers throughout the week to engage all learners.
The event will also be supported during tutorials to raise awareness and open up discussions about conditions that may affect students or someone they know.
Gower College Swansea has a dedicated Neurodiversity team who support learners with neurodiverse conditions such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, developmental coordination disorder (DCD)/dyspraxia and developmental language disorder (DLD).
Each faculty at the College has a designated Neurodiversity Support Specialist (NSS) and specialist Neurodiversity Centres provide a quiet space to work in.
“We are really excited to be part of this week,” says Neurodiversity Coordinator, Emma Jones. “We want to reach out to all learners – whether they have a neurodiverse condition themselves or maybe have friends and family members who do - and help to raise awareness of what it actually means to be neurodiverse and the range of support we can offer as a College.”
