Almost 30 students from Gower College Swansea have been offered places at some of the UK’s most prestigious drama colleges and universities.

International students head off to Heatherton

Our first year students had a great day out at Heatherton World of Activities during the Easter break.

From water zorbing to zip wiring and go karting, their enthusiasm remained intact even during the rain!

This fun event gave the group a chance to relax together before getting down to the serious business of the upcoming exam season.

ROC Midden College Erasmus+ visit

Gower College Swansea has welcomed four members of staff from the Dutch College of ROC Midden.

Hosted by the Business and Technology Learning Area from Tuesday 17 until Friday 20 April, their main focus was to see how the Welsh education system varies from the Dutch.

They observed classes from Levels 1-3 in business, economics, accounting, criminology and law, in both Gorseinon and Tycoch Campuses. They also saw how the staff here at the College motivate students to achieve their full potential.

Students meet the Counsel General on campus

A Level students at Gower College Swansea have been paid a special visit by the Counsel General, Jeremy Miles AM.

At a seminar with Law and Criminology students at the Gorseinon campus, the Counsel General spoke about a range of issues pertaining to access to justice. This included the availability of legal aid, the court modernisation programme, the increasing costs of court fees, legal education and the codification of the law.

College hosts events linked to BBC Radio 1 Academy

Gower College Swansea was delighted to host a series of events last week at its Tycoch Campus in the run up to Radio 1’s Academy at the Swansea Grand Theatre in May.

On Friday 20 April students had the opportunity to take part in a Q&A workshop with BBC Radio 1’s DJ Matt Edmondson where they got the opportunity to explore how a live broadcast is put together and the tricks of the trade that go with it.

Gower College Swansea Students Win Aberystwyth University Awards

Four students from Gower College Swansea have been successful in Aberystwyth University’s Entrance Scholarship competition.

This year, the University awarded 68 Scholarships and a number of Merit Awards to students applying to study at Aberystwyth in September 2018. 

Enrique Thisby received an Institute Scholarship, Emma Burton received an Evan Morgan Scholarship, Darson Beeston received a Merit Award and an unconditional offer was awarded to Jessica Lewis on the basis of their strong performance in the exams.

Swansea people securing better employment thanks to College scheme

A programme designed to strengthen Swansea’s workforce has supported nearly 400 people and 80 businesses across the city during its first six months in operation. 

Better Jobs, Better Futures, which is run by Gower College Swansea, was established to improve Swansea’s overall employment prospects through a mixture of one-to-one employability support for individuals and dedicated workforce and recruitment advice for businesses.

Competition success for beauty students

Competition success for beauty students

Two Beauty students from Gower College Swansea have scooped prizes at a prestigious Salon Cymru competition.

Amanda Rees took first place at the Cardiff event, where she was closely followed by Katie Jennings in third place. Both students are currently on the Level 2 Cosmetic Make-up course at the College’s Broadway Centre.

For the competition, they had to demonstrate different techniques of make-up artistry such as highlighting and sculpting.

Horizons broaden for International team

The College's International Manager Kieran Keogh has recently returned from a successful business trip to Hong Kong and mainland China.

In Hong Kong, Kieran attended a recruitment event with Amber Education, one of the largest student recruitment agencies in the area. In mainland China, he signed agreements with six new partner schools in Zhuzhou, Lanzhou, Shenyang and Beijing.

Kieran also met with Chinese investors regarding the potential to develop a Gower College Swansea campus in China.
