Apprenticeship open evening and information sessions for Apprenticeship Week
National Apprenticeship Week (NAW) 2023 is the 16th annual celebration of apprenticeships in the UK and brings together businesses and apprentices to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy. It coincides with Apprenticeship Week Wales (AWW) which aims to celebrate and promote apprenticeships in Wales as a valuable pathway into work or a new career.

Graduate Cedron Sion has agreed to be an Apprenticeship Ambassador as he pursues a profession as a translator alongside his acting ambitions.
A few months after completing an Acting Degree, Cedron, 26, from Porthmadog, successfully applied for an apprenticeship post as a translator with the Welsh Language Services Team at Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW/AaGIC).

Gower College Swansea lecturer Wyn Richards has joined the UAL Awarding Body's External Developer Register.
Wyn joined the College in 2015 and currently leads the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Performance UAL (Acting Company) course.
He is delighted that he will now have the opportunity, in addition to the day job, to apply his knowledge, skills and experience to help shape qualifications provision now and into the future.

However, in the media recently there has been a number of stories concerning respiratory infections circulating within the community including flu, COVID and other bacterial infections.
Public Health Wales has recently updated their guidance for people suffering with symptoms of respiratory infection and we feel, as a College, that it is important that we highlight this to you so you can be more aware of how to protect against infection.
Students enjoy textiles workshop
AS and A Level Textiles students enjoyed a weaving workshop with Llio James, a Welsh practitioner with a strong interest in developing the relationship between hand weaving and the traditional woollen industry within Wales.
Exploring the feeling of belonging to ‘country and culture,’ colour plays an important role in her design process as she examines proportion, scale and geometric shapes when hand weaving bespoke cloth.

Over 500 of the best students and apprentices from all over the UK came together for hours of intense competition in November, to be crowned as WorldSkills UK National Final winners.
WorldSkills is a global movement of over 80 countries which supports young people across the world via competition-based training. The UK National Final saw young people compete in 62 disciplines from 3D Digital Game Art to Laboratory Technician, and medalists were announced during an online celebration event on Friday 25 November.

Gower College Swansea student William Evans is showing a real practical flair for entrepreneurship despite being just 16 years of age.
Two years ago Will, who is studying a BTEC Business course at the Gorseinon campus, started selling eggs from his family’s smallholding in the Gower. As the community was under lockdown at the time, Will took the initiative and offered a home delivery service which proved very popular with his customers who were looking to shop locally.
