Congratulations to Charlotte Robinson, Level 3 Hospitality and Catering student, who was awarded Gold in the WelshSkills final of the Advanced Patisserie and Confectionery competition recently held at Coleg Llandrillo.

Competing against eight candidates, in just two and a half hours Charlotte was required to create four portions of a plated dessert (to include three separate components) and a tempered chocolate garnish.

Airport work experience inspires students

Airport work experience inspires students

Travel and Tourism students from Gower College Swansea recently visited Bristol Airport where they undertook a day’s work experience with Swissport International.

During the visit, the students received an airside and landside tour of the airport which included shadowing airport staff at the check-in and information desk, baggage handling and security. They also gained invaluable information which will help them to pass their City & Guilds qualification in Cabin Crew.

Gold and Silver medals for GCS students

Gower College Swansea recently hosted a Skills Competition Wales Computer Aided Design (CAD) event which saw entrants from all over Wales gather at the Gorseinon campus.

Four Gower College Swansea Engineering students participated on the day and were very successful - with Scott Fry taking Gold and Brett Nethell taking Silver.

"Last year student Joseph Dickerson achieved Silver so we were delighted to go one better in 2016 and our students pulled off a brilliant team performance," says Curriculum Leader Huw Isaac.

ILS students open exhibition of work

In January, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery - as part of its Offsite Secondary School programme - began a 10 week project with a group of students from the Independent Living Skills (ILS) department at Gower College Swansea.

Based at Gower College Swansea’s Tycoch Campus, the ILS department offers a range of courses that are tailored to students with specialist learning needs.

Engineering Technology students from Gower College Swansea's Tycoch campus recently visited TIMET in Waunarlwydd.

TIMET is a world leader in the production of titanium for the aerospace, military, oil and gas industries. They are taking on apprentices this summer and invited our students to take a tour of the plant prior to the work experience stage of the recruitment process.

Welsh Girls make history at UK College Sport Finals

Students from Wales’ Further Education colleges re-wrote the record books and reached new heights in female team sports at last weekend’s AoC Sport National Championships in Newcastle.

Three of the Welsh Colleges women’s teams, competing against 11 other national and regional squads from around the UK, won podium positions in the blue riband rugby, netball and hockey competitions.

A Level Chemistry students at Gower College Swansea have performed exceptionally well at this year’s Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad.

The annual event is open to second year A Level students who are expected to achieve grades of A or A*in their exams, and is a challenging exercise that truly stretches the most committed young chemists.

A fantastic weekend for college at AOC National Championships!

Gower College Swansea is celebrating after a fantastic weekend at the AoC National Championships in Newcastle. 

There were over 2000 students in attendance, with the Welsh team consisting of 180 (57 of these were from Gower College Swansea - the biggest representation from a Welsh college.)

New digital technology lab opens at Tycoch

Students at Gower College Swansea will benefit following the official launch of a brand new digital technology lab at the Tycoch campus.

The lab is the result of a very generous sponsorship package from Premier EDA Solutions, which includes a donation of around £500,000 of their sector-leading Altium Designer electronic design software.
