Impressive Skills medal haul for College students

Gower College Swansea is celebrating after scooping an amazing 20 medals at the recent Skills Competition Wales suite of events.

Skills Competition Wales aims to raise the profile of skills in Wales and offers students, trainees and apprentices a chance to challenge, benchmark and raise their skills by taking part in competitions across a range of sectors.

The competitions provide an opportunity for vocational learners to showcase and gain recognition for their skills in their chosen sector and to progress onto national and international competitions.

Funded by the Welsh Government and run by a dedicated network of colleges, work-based learning providers and employer-led organisations, it consists of a series of local skills competitions, aligned to WorldSkills and the needs of the Welsh economy.

“We are really delighted with the performance of all our competing learners who took part this year,” says Dean of Faculty and Skills Ambassador, Cath Williams. “Every single one of our competitors demonstrated remarkable dedication and commitment as they made their way through the competitions process. To come away with 20 medals – three Gold, 11 Silver and 6 Bronze – is just the icing on the cake!

“As a College, we are exceptionally proud of the skills of our vocational learners which is testament to the excellent teaching and learning experiences that our teaching teams provide. Particularly pleasing is the success of competitors across all areas of our curriculum, celebrating the breadth of our provision at Gower College Swansea in our first year as a UK Skills Centre of Excellence.”
