College boasts new masterclasses to enrich curriculum

Gower College Swansea is delighted to continue taking part in the Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) with a suite of virtual masterclasses fronted by high profile industry leaders over the next six months.

The Knowledge Transfer Programme (KTP) is a Welsh Government funded initiative that supports colleges in Wales with the delivery of activities designed to accelerate and build expertise for staff and increase learner knowledge and learning experience.

The masterclasses will aim to enrich the current curriculum with real life, industry focus talks featuring individuals including architectural designer Charlie Luxton, former founding Chief Executive Officer of Gü, James Averdieck and design scientist, systems theorist and futurist, Melissa Sterry.

“We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to offer these masterclasses via the Knowledge Transfer Programme,” said Director of Skills and Business Development, Paul Kift.

“They will enable our staff and students to further access leading industry skills and expertise as well as understand the challenges facing key sectors, technological advancement and transformational change needs.

“Bringing together academia and business, these masterclasses will also focus on the priorities of Skills Cymru, which includes areas such as construction, digital, engineering, health and science.

Future virtual masterclasses include:  
 
January: Michael Pawlyn  
Michael is a keynote speaker on biomimicry and innovation. Michael Pawlyn has been described as a pioneer of regenerative design and biomimicry and is dedicated to marrying up the inspirations of nature to use in his work as an architect.

February: Charlie Luxton
Charlie is an architectural designer who is passionate about the environment and sustainable architecture and eco-friendly design.

February: Mike Jones
Mike is a leading expert in construction, with a particular focus on electronics, fiber optics and new development.

March: Melissa Sterry
A design scientist, systems theorist and futurist, Melissa is recognised as a world-leading authority on the science, technology and thinking that could help build a better world.

March: James Averdieck
Former founding CEO of Gu, James now runs The Coconut Collaborative, a yoghurt business which uses coconut milk.
