Calling Year 8 Creatives: Showcase your skills at Swansea Arena!

Excitement is brewing as Gower College Swansea gears up for an exciting project in collaboration with the Schools Arts Network.

The ‘Our Voices’ project aims to empower young talents in the Swansea and Neath Port Talbot regions. Renowned Artist in Residence at the College, Ffion Denman, and dedicated teaching staff have produced a creative toolkit including a captivating series of videos to inspire and guide year 8 pupils in expressing their unique perspectives through art.

And the most exciting part? All artwork submitted will be shown at a spectacular exhibition at Swansea Arena in June!

"We're thrilled to provide a platform for young people to express what is important to them through their artwork," said Elinor Franklin, Assistant Learning Area Manager for the Llwyn y Bryn Campus at Gower College Swansea.

"The arena exhibition promises to be a celebration of creativity and collaboration, showcasing the diverse voices of our region's young people."

From Bishopston to Bryn Tawe and Pontardulais to Pentrehafod, 23 schools have been invited to take part. However, the showcase isn’t limited to these schools alone. Year 8 pupils who are homeschooled or from schools not directly involved in the project can also submit artwork.

For those seeking further details or wishing to participate, inquiries can be directed to Ffion Denman at ffion.denman@gcs.ac.uk or Elinor Franklin at elinor.franklin@gcs.ac.uk

The arena exhibition will serve as a vibrant tapestry of artistic expression, highlighting the talent and imagination of young minds across the region.

The feedback from teachers has been incredible!

"I am just letting you know how fantastic the above competition is. The resources for teaching this are superb and you have made it so easy to deliver. It fits perfectly with our theme of 'journey around the world'. I wish every competition did this!" - Claire Moore, Art Teacher, Dylan Thomas Community School
