Competition success for beauty students

Two Beauty students from Gower College Swansea have scooped prizes at a prestigious Salon Cymru competition.

Amanda Rees took first place at the Cardiff event, where she was closely followed by Katie Jennings in third place. Both students are currently on the Level 2 Cosmetic Make-up course at the College’s Broadway Centre.

For the competition, they had to demonstrate different techniques of make-up artistry such as highlighting and sculpting.

'Big Ideas' baritone visits Beauty students

Big Ideas Role Model and multi-talented Welsh baritone Mark Llewellyn Evans delivered a day of workshops recently at the Broadway Centre.

“This was a wonderful opportunity for the new beauty therapists to gain an insight in the careers they could follow in the film and music industry," says the college's Enterprise Officer Lucy Turtle, who organised the event.

Industry professionals inspired by hair and beauty showcase

Gower College Swansea recently hosted an evening to celebrate and inspire Welsh talent across the hair and beauty sector.

The hair and make-up masterclass at Sketty Hall was attended by staff, students and local industry professionals who enjoyed practical demonstrations from salon director (and former student) Casey Coleman and Chris Howells, international make-up artist for Laura Mercier.

Singer / songwriter performs special gig for students

Singer / songwriter – and star of BBC’s The Voice – Bronwen Lewis recently visited Gower College Swansea’s Tycoch campus.

Bronwen met with Hair and Beauty students before performing a selection of numbers from her new album, Pureheart.

There was also a special screening of the film Pride, in which Bronwen appears. Based on a true story, Pride tells the story of a group of lesbian and gay activists who raised money to help families affected by the miners’ strike in 1984.
