Apprentices represent college at regional heats

Two students have represented Gower College Swansea at prestigious national apprentice competitions.

Mariusz Gawarecki, who is studying towards a Level 2 Diploma in Plumbing and Heating, was put forward for the HIP UK Heating Apprentice of the Year by his lecturer Mike Morris.

“Mariusz is an exceptional student – in fact, he was our overall Engineering Student of the Year in 2015 - and was a fantastic ambassador for the college at this year’s competition, being placed second out of ten,” says Mike.

Matthew Vice-Mitchell, who is studying towards a Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation, was put forward for the SPARKS UK Electrical Apprentice of the Year by his lecturer Howard Jenkins.

“Matthew was really looking forward to the challenge of this competition and he did Gower College Swansea absolutely proud,” says Howard.

These national competitions are organised every year by HIP Magazine and SPARKS Magazine for Level 2 or 3 students who are doing an apprenticeship.

“Students get a lot out of the competition,” said Celia Matthews, competition organiser. “They make new friends, gain confidence in their abilities and enjoy the challenge.”
