Key information

Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this course but, students will have progressed onto this course from the Introduction to Further Education course (IFE). Students can also apply for this course, but will undertake an interview as well as an initial assessment.

Course Delivery

Students will be given the opportunity to acquire qualifications in numeracy and communication which are important in all areas for the students’ future. These classes are compulsory and will be continually developed whilst the student is with us in the college.

Opportunities for enrichment activities start on Friday afternoon electives, where students will have the option to choose an activity such as sport, art, dance, beauty and many more. These enrichment activities don't stop with an afternoon session of differing experiences - they go on to include the student Christmas party, end of year ball (held in the Marriott Hotel) and other cross college events such as the Fresher’s Fayre and Diversity Fayre. The staff strive to ensure that the students take part in the full college experience.

Within the Independent Living Skills department (ILS) we endeavour to teach the 'whole' student, offering them the opportunity to grow as a person whilst they are with us.

Through theoretical and practical sessions in and outside of the classroom, the course aims to assist to develop the whole student and allow them new experiences that they can transfer to other situations e.g. Travel Skills and Retail where students take part in activities to build confidence as well as skills that can be used outside the college.

Not only will students study the main ASDAN Employability Qualification they will also study other qualifications that will help to develop them as individuals such as (these subjects may change): Working With Others; Exploring Job Opportunities; Plan and Review Learning; Travel Skills; Customer Service; Rights and Responsibilities in the Workplace; Learning Through Work Experience and Communicating with Others at Work.

Progression Opportunities

After successful completion of the WP course, students could progress onto an Entry Level 2 or 3 course.
