Hairdressing Diploma (Work Based)

Course Overview

This programme of study is for learners who wish to build upon the Level 2 hairdressing qualification, enabling you to develop and enhance your hairdressing skills. 

During your study you will develop your hairdressing skills and work on clients in a busy commercial salon environment and complete assessments in the following areas

  • Health and safety
  • Consultation
  • Creative cutting
  • Cutting men's hair
  • Creative colour techniques
  • Style and dress long hair
  • Colour correction

All students will also work to complete Level 2 Essential Skills qualifications in communications and application of number.

Entry Requirements

Grade A-C in GCSE maths or equivalent Essential Skills Wales (ESW) communication and application of number. 

Or you will need to have NVQ Level 2 Hairdressing with good basic hairdressing skills and a good understanding of hairdressing theory.

 

Course Delivery

You will attend college one day a week - the rest of your week (four days) will be spent in a salon.

All units are delivered modular and assessments are continuous, to include practical observations and written tests.

Practical observations will take place in the salon. Written assessments will be conducted in college.

Progression Opportunities

Employment opportunities include working as a senior stylist in a salon, on cruise ships or becoming a salon owner.

 

Additional Information

All learners will be provided with teaching,learning and assessment material but will be required to purchase a head (£27.25) and have suitable kit to include cutting and styling equipment.
