Overview

This one year course incorporates 2 qualifications - BTEC Level 2 Technical Certificate in Business Administration and BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Business. 

The programme focuses on how the business world develops, operates and responds to change. It equips students with the knowledge and understanding necessary for the world of work and fundamentals to start their own business. 

This qualification is the equivalent of studying 5 GCSEs. 

Course Objectives: 

  • Understand administration services  
  • Take part in business administration work experience   
  • Utilise business technology to process and communicate Information 
  • Planning, organising and supporting business events 
  • Develop a financially viable business plan for a promotional campaign and website 
  • Identify branding strategies utilised in business.  

Course Outcomes: 

  • Explain the importance of administrative support tasks, including how to prepare and distribute business documents and how to manage diary systems and financing systems 
  • Gain the attributes to work within business administration sector 
  • Recognise and use business software programmes 
  • Plan, cost and participate in a business event 
  • Calculate costs involved in running own business, using financial statements 
  • Use digital marketing strategies to enhance the value of brands.

Course Delivery

Assessment: 

  • Written exams 
  • Programming assignments. 

Grading Criteria: 

Internal assessment (70%) 

External assessment (30%). 

Units are assessed using a grading scale of Distinction (D), Merit (M), and Pass (P). Qualifications are graded using a scale of PP to D*D*. 

Progression Opportunities

Employment: The course will enhance students' prospects of gaining entry onto a Modern Apprenticeship or Work Based NVQ within the business world. Jobs in this industry: Administrator, Admin clerk, receptionist and business support administrator. Staying with Gower College Swansea: A Merit on this course, plus good attendance and a C grade in English Language, will allow students to progress onto to BTEC level 3 Diploma in Business with London Institute of Banking and Finance.
