Mathematics

Course Overview

This course will provide you with a thorough grounding in Maths skills and techniques. 

It includes classroom exercise and homework that will consolidate the techniques and skills you learn in class.

Areas of study include pure mathematics, mechanics and statistics.

Entry Requirements

At least a B grade at GCSE in Mathematics from the Higher Tier.

 

Course Delivery

Formative assessments consists of classroom exercise and homework that students are required to do to consolidate the techniques and skills that they learn in class.

They also do tests under examination conditions to prepare themselves for the external examinations.

Final formal assessment consists of 1.5 hours written papers that they take in each of the three modules studied for the A2 Mathematics qualification.

Progression Opportunities

An A Level in Mathematics is a requirement for many university courses. Students can progress to higher education institutions.

Additional Information

Students will need a standard scientific calculator.

There will be opportunities to attend occasional talks on Mathematical topics organised by various institutions, one of which is Swansea University Mathematics Department.
